PERGOLAS
The pergola is an outdoor structure that offers protection from the sun and wind, and is usually found in balconies, gardens, balconies, and holiday homes but also in public places and recreation areas e.g. restaurants, bars, swimming pools, traditional taverns, as well as in hotels, patios, shopping malls and elsewhere.
It is essentially a shading system that is often chosen in Europe and especially in the Mediterranean, and creates conditions of comfort and protection of outdoor spaces. It is often found in urban environments, especially to cover balconies in modern apartment buildings. Basic building materials of the pergola are stone, wood, aluminum, cast iron and various other synthetic materials. As a "type - kiosk", the pergola can also be an extension of a building, or serve as protection for an open terrace, or be the connection between two pavilions.
The origin of the word is Latin, from the word pergula, which means as a protruding cornice. The English term is a word-loan from Italian. It is mentioned in an Italian context in 1645 by John Evelyn in the monastery of Trinità dei Monti in Rome. The clearly artificial nature of the pergola made it favored by the naturalistic gardening styles of the 18th and 19th centuries. However, beautiful pergolas on brick and stone pillars with strong beams were a feature of the gardens designed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by Sir Edwin Lutyens and Gertrude Jekyll and are the hallmark of their solid structure planted. A particularly extensive pergola appears in The Hill Gardens in Hampstead (London), designed by Thomas Mawson for the WH Lever client. The pergola in Wroclaw was designed in 1911 and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006.
